Psalms 1 offers simplicity, short and sweet wisdom, comfort and reality deep within its words:
(1) Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
(2) but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night.Psalms 1:1-2 NIV
We who follow and seek earnestly after the Lord truly are blessed! We might look at our trials and the things that life throws at us and be pulled, even if only for a second, to thinking otherwise, but the Lords provision for us is complete! We must love the word of the Lord! It must be part of what we look to diligently (day and night it says!) for our hope, instruction and that perfect advice that we must follow. Why would we follow anything else? The folly of man? That which our flesh wants to do? Is the so called wisdom of man something that we truly want to weigh against the Lords wisdom each time? We are fools if we choose mans wisdom. Why do I say it is only part of the Lords provision? His spirit is also our guide and what we must learn to look to and follow in perfect harmony with His word.
(3) That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
Psalms 1:3 NIV
Whatever we do, if we fit into the category outlined by the earlier verses, WILL prosper! If we are following His word and being led by His spirit then we are within the perfect will of God and following His paths, not the decisions and paths of our fleshly desires and fleshly wisdom. With our human eyes, we may not always see the results of His perfect will as prosperity, but we can trust the Lord’s perfect will even if we don’t understand it. His ways are higher than our ways!
(4) Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
(5) Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
(6) For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.Psalms 1:4-6 NIV
Vengeance is Gods, He will repay (Romans 12:19-21)! He will punish! He will decide whose deeds are evil, not us! Neither will it ever become our responsibility to decide or assign the above in this life! There is so much danger in our deciding other people’s fate through our flesh, deciding whose evil tips the balance too far. The Lord is our discernment, His spirit will guide us concerning those who are not of God and His spirit will lead us as to how we are to interact with them.
